Solo Camping in the Forest | Campfire Cooking with the Firebox Freestyle
Join me on my first camp of summer in the forest. It has been a while since I've done a hammock camp so for this camp I bring out my Warbonnet Ridgerunner. After hiking through the forest, I find a suitable open spot for the hammock. Once camp is setup and I collect some firewood for the evening, I make myself a nice meal and just enjoy sitting by the campfire and listening to the sounds of the forest. I hope you enjoy watching!

Solo Camping on a Small Island with the Hilleberg Unna | Packraft Adventure | Firebox Camp Cooking
Просмотров 24 тыс.Месяц назад
Join me on my first camping trip with my new packraft. After a nice hike along the lake I use the packraft to make my way to a couple islands I have been wanting to visit for quite some time. After a bit of exploring I was lucky enough to find a beautiful campsite right next to the water on one of the islands. I had a bit of misfortune with my camera, but after that, I was able to still make a ...

Join me on a summit camp in Snowdonia, Wales. After having an extremely wet and windy winter that has crept into spring, I finally get some incredible weather and views from the tent. Per usual there was quite a bit of unexpected rain, sleet, and snow on the hike up to the summit. But the forecast was right for once, and the skies finally opened up and I had a beautiful after and evening NOT s...

They can't all be beautiful hikes in warm sunny weather. Join me on this challenging camp in the English Lake District. This ended up being some of the toughest weather I have had to contend with while hiking and camping in quite some time. The rains and winds were relentless but adjustments were made as the hike went on to find a safe place to hunker down in the tent for the night. If I had kn...

Join me on a very cold and windy winter camp in Snowdonia. On this trip I hike/scramble to a beautiful small llyn tucked away in the mountains, cook up a nice meal and get a warm sleep with my new winter sleep system. Join me on my first snow camp of winter. On this camp I get up the mountain and find a nice secluded spot to pitch the tent next to a frozen tarn and prepare a really nice meal for myself. Although I got to camp in the snow, it pretty much rained the entire afternoon and night which really tested the abilities of the single wall tent that I brought with me. I've got a Nammaj GT3, Ive stripped out the inner and left the full footprint on it. Its light enough for one person, and I call it the Hilleberg Hilton Hotel! Interesting to see that water penetration on the vent area. Mine has a wire built in to the cap, so it that can be bent down to limit the wind getting under it, but that was exceptionally windy. That weather was what we call 'dirty' here in New Zealand, but its often what you can expect. I also have the Akto for solo hunting trips, and thats bombproof too. You've got to have 200mm round titanium pegs for the bigger tents, but also got to have the right ground to fully insert them! Beautiful landscape for a better weather window.

    • @GoingSoloOutdoors
      @GoingSoloOutdoors 13 часов назад

      Nice! Yes I have lowered the wire a bit in the past but the winds were blowing rain completely from the side so it was hard to block it all on this camp. The vestibule definitely got wet but the inner stayed nice and dry. The ground was also a bit of a problem on this camp. Once I was dry and more comfortable, I was able to anchor some of the pegs with rocks that I was not able to get entirely into the ground because it was so rocky. Once secured though the tent was incredibly sturdy. Really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. All the best.

      @GoingSoloOutdoors 13 часов назад

      Yes absolutely 👍. I actually gathered a bit away from what I showed in the video also. A bit further away from here there were some well defined walls or sheep enclosures. I did not touch that location. Any stones gathered also get place where they are found. Most of the stones came on the way back to the tent from the ground so I can easily see where they were previously sitting. Appreciate your comment. ATB

    stuff wet clothes in the bottom of your sleeping bag. Body heat will dry them. You don't have to wear the wet stuff to dry it. Infantry trick

    • @GoingSoloOutdoors
      @GoingSoloOutdoors 18 часов назад

      👍😀 I’ve done that as well and you’re right it works great! But when I have this many items that are soaked I don’t like to because in the past it actually significantly compressed the down as it soaked through the footbox of my sleeping bag. My underwear and trousers will typically mostly dry out before going to bed if I wear them. The only reason I didn’t do it on this trip is because it wasn’t that cold so I just went for immediate comfort and hung out in my bag. Really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. All the best

  • @glenwang7895
    @glenwang7895 День назад

    Good video.. I would like to suggest try using a ziplock bag to keep your spare clothing before you put inside your bag pack. That way even if the water gets inside, it's gonna be dry.. and ziplock bag can also help to compress the clothing after you squeeze out the air, freeing up more space..

    • @GoingSoloOutdoors
      @GoingSoloOutdoors 18 часов назад

      I actually use a dry bag that has a membrane that allows air out but not water in 👍. You may have missed it in the video but I put up text on the screen mentioning all my important items were in a dry bag. So my sleeping bag, extra shirt, socks, puffy jacket etc … were all protected inside the pack. The only items that got wet were things that I didn’t mind getting wet like my cook kit. Normally when it’s going to be this heavy with rain, I’ll use an entire pack liner also though. Really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. All the best.

    At the 11:00 mark. It looks like all that is needed is a notch cut from the bottom of the shield just enough to let the damper dial slide up. Not all the way up to the tent chimney opening, but maybe 4-5 inches from the bottom to allow it to be embedded and accessed for control.

    • @GoingSoloOutdoors
      @GoingSoloOutdoors День назад

      Yeah that would definitely work 👍. It’s not typically too big a deal though because just controlling the airflow with the damper on the front of the stove works really well. I’ve also stepped away from using this stove in favor of a newer titanium stove the folds flat. This will most likely only get used in my larger hot tents now where I don’t need to use the heat shield so close to the stove. Really appreciate you watching another video! ATB

      I’ve done it that way in the past as well and it does give you one less thing to carry. Although, I typically like to caramelize the sugars into the ground beef first. When I premix it with the soy sauce, I have to cook it a bit longer to remove the moisture to begin making the sauce sticky. By adding the sugars first I’ve gotten better results.
